Caring Friends, Inc. has been involved in the following activities during the 2006-2007 year:
- Provided cameras, school supplies for Head Start in Gulfton.
- Provided support for Nicaraguans to send folks to take basic classes at the College of Biblical Studies.
- Sponsored Chiapas Project/Grameen Foundation presentations in Houston to educate about the Nobel Prize winning success of micro-loans to poor, under-funded women with no collateral to start micro-businesses.
- Partnered with CCSC Sunshine Resale Shop in support of gift certificates and clothes for those in need, including gift certificates at Christmas for those who had worked as day laborers but had not been paid.
- Received and/or facilitated gifts of television sets, computers, appliances, furniture and over 40 boxes of home furnishing items to other 501c3 organizations. (Seafarer's Center, Children's Activity Center, San Mateo Church, CCSC, Women's Center, among others)
- Worked with Gulfton area (in Houston) elementary schools (95% free-lunch schools) to provide clothes, blankets and food to those identified by school nurses and counselors as children and families in need.
- Supported monthly breakfast taco delivery to day laborers in Gulfton in partnership with the Hands-On Men's Leadership Team of San Mateo Episcopal Church.
- Proposed matching fund grants to 4 Gulfton elementary schools for additional gift certificates for food and emergency aid of school families.
- Funded water wells in Haiti (drilled), Honduras and Mexico (to be drilled in spring/summer of 2007) in partnership with Living Water International
- Provided matching grant challenge to Pro Salud, a non-profit health promotion team that works largely with underserved Hispanic immigrant families under pediatrician, Dr. Margaret Goetz.
- Gave 5000 toothbrushes for Dental Hygiene Week for elementary schools in Gulfton. Many children did not own a toothbrush.
- Raised funds from U.S. retirees for indigent retirees in Liberia, Africa in partnership with the United Methodist Church.
- Volunteers helped with Vision Screening at Braeburn Elementary
- Provided support to International Christian Fellowship for Welcoming Night meal at U. of H. for incoming and returning international students.
- Connected Rice University students working with PAIR (helping refugee children in Houston) to Technology for All and Dr. Will Reed who gave PAIR assistance with grant application.
- Supported Emmaus Ministries and their Montrose work with persons involved with prostitution and addictions.
